I lost a tooth because of an abscess. It has been over a year now. I was wondering how much longer I should wait before getting a tooth implant, and if anyone out there has had one. What is your experience with one, if you've had one? Would you recommend it? Thank you!
Has anyone had a tooth implant?
I have a son with 6 implants due to an accident. There was not much pain. Just a few stitches to deal with. The permanent tooth thing is so nice. Nothing like a bridge that gets food under it and then you end up having to remove it and clean under it.
They do have to evaluate the jaw to determine if there is enough bone above the main nerve that runs through the jaw to install the titanium post to mount the tooth on. If the bone is inadequate they will do a bone graft to gain area above the nerve to install the post. Then later the tooth.
The biggest problem is the cost. Implants are still expensive but worth it if you can afford them!
Reply:my brother lost one of his front teeth and is curently getting ready for a tooth implant i bleve, its a piece of medal (i think) that they screw into your jaw bone (where the old tooth was) and then they let that heal for a few months after that they pop on a tooth somehow (not 100% sure yet) and it is there for life, just like you never lost a tooth.... the dentist has to look at your jaw bone ( by touching or x-ray) to make sure they can insert the medal piece, if its not going to be strong enough you may need to get a bone graph done. it is a somewhat long process, and lots of healing, but i think it would be worth it.
Reply:You can get a partial bridge instead of an implant. Implants are very painful, look them up on the internet for pictures. They actually cut and pull back your gum to insert the pin into your bone. I worked for a dentist who talked people out of implants all the time.
