Does anyone use Delta Dental in California? Have you had any good experiences with them?

I had several teeth implanted - for which I did not expect them to pay. Recently, two front teeth broke when I fell - should they not repair and/or replace them just as they would if they were your real teeth? I've been a member of Delta for years and they've always had an excuse for paying for absolutely nothing.

Does anyone use Delta Dental in California? Have you had any good experiences with them?
I've worked with Delta Dental in both Texas and Nevada, and I've only heard good things. No, the implants would not be covered as though they are natural teeth, because they are not natural teeth.

Because of the detail that goes into creating implants with both the oral surgeon and the dentist that created the final crown (if you had two dentists) any incidental damage falls into the 'other' category. The dentist(s) provided you with post-op instructions, and you cannot have them re-done as a result of a fall/accident. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. You could argue the claim, but that could take months with no guaranteed resolution in your favor.

Dental insurance is only meant to supplement payments, not fully cover treatment, unlike medical insurance, unfortunately.

Make sure your dentist has accurate radiographs (x-rays) and intraoral pictures to send to the insurance company. That always helps with resolving any non-payment issue. You have a right to request copies of both.
Reply:Well, then you should know that they are in business for not paying on claims. I had Delta Dental here in Ohio and had the same problem. They pay pretty much nothing.
Reply:There all the same. They promise you the moon till you need them. Then the Nazi attitude kicks in. And you find yourself Goose stepping home.

How much for dental implants, if I need a sinus lift and bone graft?

Teeth # 11 %26amp; 12 but also need bone graft and a sinus lift. How much do you think it should cost? Let me know if you're a dentist when answering.

How much for dental implants, if I need a sinus lift and bone graft?
Insteadof going through with all of that, why not just get a 4-unit bridge instead? It's less expensive, less invasive and some of the cost will be covered by your dental insurance, if applicable.

Whitening of teeth?

I've heard that if you have implants or bridges ( in the front of your mouth ) that it is not good to have the whitening process ( from the dentist or over the counter ) done, due to the implant or bridge will not change in color.

Is this correct ??

If not, what do you think would work ?

Whitening of teeth?
Yes this is correct. Only your natural enamel will change color. Its not bad for you to do this, it will make the bridge, implant or any other prosthetics stand out. That is why a patient should always be give the option to whiten prior to the crown, bridge, implant, restoration being placed.

Unfortunately, nothing will work :(
Reply:You would be correct, only your natural teeth will whiten.

Am planning to get dental work done in Bangkok. So many dentists to choose from??

Any information re: standard, cost, hygiene, professionalism - good or bad experiences appreciated. I am having a tooth implant, one daughter is having impacted wisdom teeth out and other daughter, teeth whitening. I'm not interested in the package deal with accom. etc, just a recommended quality, reasonably priced dental practice with high standards. I am going back home to Aust. via Thailand - and like many australians decided to get dental work done in Thailand, as well as have a holiday. The standard is high but cheaper than Aust. and a popular destination for dental/cosmetic work, but my problem is there are so many choices and I was hoping for feedback from people who have had dental work done in Thailand.

Am planning to get dental work done in Bangkok. So many dentists to choose from??
The standard of dentistry in Thailand is EXTREMELY POOR.

Costs of providing high standard dentistry is the same around the world. Only material costs can differ. For instance a Swedish manufactured Titanium implant costs $700 in materials whether you buy it in Australia, or China. China however make dental implants that they say are titanium, but are copper, or something very cheap and nasty. If you get an implant put in China, you only find that it destroys your jaw bone 2 years after the event, and there is no way you can go back and complain. Thailand is the same. It is why they offer cheaper dental treatment... it IS cheaper, in more ways than you have obviously considered.

I do not advise you to go to anyone outside of your local area where you live. Having good dental care is one thing, and obviously trying to get it as cheap as possible is important for the family budget, but there are long term costs to consider, and these are OBVIOUSLY not being factored into your consideration. For instance what if something goes wrong?... What is the worse thing that can happen? Have you consdeired that there is always a real chance of death, infection, maiming, or even worse, that the corrective care you go through can be far more expensive, and can only be conducted back home where you live.

Australia has the highest standard fo dentistry in the world, way up there with some Northern European Countries, and with North America. You should have the dentistry at home.

Most people in Thailand who can afford the best, go to Singapore, which is even more expensive than Australian Dentistry. Thailand is not that good. You are fooling yourself into thinking you are getting a superior service, and at dirt cheap prices.

You get what you pay for, and that's why Australia is cheaper in the long term, but more expensive in the short term. To find out more on the temporal, biological, and financial costs of dentistry, go to http://www.dentalimplantsaustralia.com/

Don't go to Thailand to get your dentistry done!

How much are dental implants?

Ok,I'm a good looking guy,25 years old. i've had my share of beautiful girlfriends.but one thing i hate about myself is my teeth.they are all crooked and rotting in the back and this keeps getting worse no matter how hard i maintain them(rinse, floss, brush)I have no dental insurance and i live in upstate NY.I want to get them all pulled and get inplants,NOT DENTURES!!!how much do you think something like this would cost w/ no insurance and is there any oter ways i can go about this..Let me know please..

How much are dental implants?
I have implants: see my smile in my avatar. I have had both my natural teeth and now my implants. Even though I love my pretty smile it isn't comfortable like ones natural teeth. If I had even the slightest chance to have my own natural teeth I would do what I could to save them. Did you know that even if you did have insurance it wouldn't cover implants? To have the type of implants I have it would run you more than $40,000 and I am not exaggerating. Usually you need to find some type of financing and even care credit which is a credit card for dental issues only advances up to $25,000.

Save your teeth if you can. Dentures are not the route to take either. They do not like to stay seated and people end up living with denture adhesives and kissing feels unnatural with dentures as the roof of the mouth is covered.
Reply:well i just had a root canal a few months ago and wasnt sure if i would loose the tooth. they quoted me $3500 for 1 tooth for an implant. to do all your teeth would cost a LOT!! I live in NC so i am sure its probably even more expensive in NY. If it s something you really wan tto do i would suggest trying to find an insurance plan that would cover it and deal with the probation period (usually 6 months to a yr) and then get it done so you have help in the coverage.
Reply:When I worked for an oral surgeon, the implants were a few hundred dollars per tooth (and dental plans didn't provide much coverage for them unless it is determined a "medical necessity" and goes through your medical insurance instead of dental insurance). They might cost less now, this was several years ago.
Reply:As materials and techniques used are fairly sophisticated, there is a cost attached to having implants. However, in terms of quality of life, there is definitely a dramatic improvement for the many people across the world that have benefited from this procedure. The University Dental and Implant Centre’s normal charge is £1800 per tooth inclusive of all pre-treatment consultations and x-rays, crown provision and post-treatment follow-up. If bone grafting is required, this may add up to £200 per implant for simple grafts. For more complex cases, which may involve additional procedures like sinus lifts, larger grafts or multiple implants, your dentist will discuss the costs. Generally, the unit cost will reduce where more than 3 implants are placed. For example, an approximate cost replacing a full upper set of teeth (usually 10 teeth) is around £10,000-13,000.

CT-type scans to give 3-dimensional imaging can cost around £400 per jaw. We may recommend this in complex cases involving many implants. This type of investigation gives us the most accurate and predictable way of planning complex cases.

Please note: the prices indicated above are only a guide and will depend entirely upon the initial assessment. The normal consultation charge for those who are not registered with the practice is £50, inclusive of all x-rays and investigations.

Interest-Free Credit: We now have facilities to help patients with the cost of complex dental treatment by offering interest-free credit for all implant treatment. Please contact the practice for more information.
Reply:it would cost 1 hell of a lot of money, lets hope you saved up when you were younger!!

my mum is a hygeinist and she seriously reccomends that people dont get their teeth pulled as they regret it later on.also cleaning your teeth twice daily for 3 mins each time is exactly maintainence and your teeth shouldnt and wouldnt rot id you do this!!!!!!! i reccomend that you clean your teeth properly-not too hard cos your gums will bleed, and use listerine mouth wash daily to help get rid of any other nasties in your mouth. good luck hope this advice helps you.xx
Reply:MICHAEL,

THE COMMENTS FROM SKEETER ARE PRETTY ACCURATE. THE SENSATION OF CHEWING WITH NATURAL TEETH WILL BE LOST WITH IMPLANTS BECAUSE THERE WILL BE NO PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT (A SORT OF SHOCK ABSORBER WITH NATURAL TEETH), IN IMPLANTS, WHICH ARE ANCHORED DIRECTLY TO THE JAWBONE.

THE COST WILL RUN INTO MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
Reply:Dear Mike, I seem I´ve had somehow the same problem as yours. I do understand you. Unfortunatelly, I discovered it kind of late. I´ve heard its cost in the US is preety high and not 100% sure that your body will accept it.

lets have talk....smilewide_open@yahoo.com Danny
Reply:Basically figure since your in new york, with the cost of living out there, count on anywhere between 2-4 thousand per tooth, so anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000 for full mouth implants, and insurance usually doesn't cover implants unless they are necessary and are not for cosmetic reasons. Plus most dental coverage will only cover $2000 per calander year, and if you're lucky, maybe medical might pick up $5,000. They are not cheap.
Reply:I have two implants and have had zero problems with them. No chewing problems as others have stated. But how good can your chewing be now if you have rotten teeth in the back. It must be painful. My two implants, teeth numbers two and twenty cost be about five thousand total. That is with the placement of the implants by an oral surgeon, the healing caps, and the perm. crown that is a-fixed to the implants. I did receive a fifty percent discount on all of my work since I am in the dental field, but still it is expensive. However if you have the money, there is in my opinion no other way to go. I have had zero pain from their placement, to the final crown prep. It has been the best thing that I have ever done. They look just like all of my other teeth and you can't tell the difference without looking at an x-ray. As someone said above most likely implants will not be covered by your insurance. You have to evaluate your dental home-care routine. Are you flossing EVERYDAY, brushing after every meal, etc. If you don't have the dental care routine now. then you should def. get into the habit of using the correct procedures for brushing and flossing. Implants can fail, they are not one hundred percent fail-proof. If you are a smoker, then there is a fifty percent higher chance that the implant will fail. I would suggest to start saving your money now so you can afford the treatment that you want. Best of luck.
Reply:Wow, that sucks your having to go through that. My husband and I signed up a few months ago for dental benefits. It will cost you $11.95 a month. This company saves you up to 80% on your dental work. You also get free prescription, free vision and free chiropractic care with your dental.

I would be very careful if I were you. Standards of infection control etc. may be very different to those expected in the western world. If you are really serious about doing this I would suggest that you contact your Embassy in that country and see which dentist the senior staff use. Or, check with the licensing body for dentists that are trained in your country to see if any trained in the west are practicing in Bangkok.

Also, if you have any problems how would you have any recourse? Personally if you are contemplating doing this because of financial reasons I would strongly suggest that you contact your local school of dentistry and volunteer yourself to the students there as a patient. It will take longer to complete the case but every step of the way the work will be checked by instructors and you can be sure that it is done right to the highest standards.
Reply:Hi! I'm in dentistry. My question is why did you pick Bangkok and where are you coming from? Do you plan to be there for a long period of time? Is this a cost issue?

Dental Work in Panama?

Can anyone give me any information on the quality of dental services in Panama? I have a friend that needs implants and of course they are not affordable here. She is looking into medical tourism companys. Has anyone had any experience good or bad with these type of companys? Also does anyone know of excellent dentists in Panama that could do this work that she could contanct? She possibly might also need bone and tissue work done before the implants could be done. She is considering dental plates that snap in as well as the full tooth implants, depending on cost. Thanks for any info.

Gum graft question?

Could you get a gum graft over a 'fake tooth' (implant, crown, etc.).

With this example here, the gums don't completely go over the fake tooth. Would a gum graft be possible to cover up the spaces you could see around the fake tooth ?

http://www.supersmiledocs.com/images/mis...

*I know there are some dentists and dental assistants that provide answers here and that is why I ask.

I'll ask my own dentist next week when we meet but I just really need to know and have some idea.

Gum graft question?
I had grafting on 3 natural teeth so I'm no expert but, I know you can't. There is nothing for the tissue to attach to. Tissue will not graft to a crown or pontic or implant because there is no blood supply. I think the question is why is your tissue receding over this spot. Good luck at the dentist!

What can I do to get dental care without dental insurance?

Hi everyone, I'm a 2x veteran that seperated from the Army, recently I have trouble finding a dentist that will provide dental care under a Vet Affairs dental reimbursement program. Because I have one missing tooth (pre-existing cond.), the costs for the dental implant exceeded the VA fee schedule, therefore will not reimburse the dentist. VA has been ignoring my case for almost a year now. If I go for priv dent. ins. I will not be covered for a teeth implant. Now I'm thinking of going to Mexico for dental care. Are there any other options?

What can I do to get dental care without dental insurance?
Unfortunately veterans get stuck behnd the 8 ball on this one, and I am so sorry for that. The fees that the VA allows are so low that most dentists can't work with that fee schedule without losing their shirt. The whole VA Dental program s a joke. We have tried in the past to work with some of the vets in our area and the hospitals put you guys on hold forever. Not a very nice way to say thanks for your service. You should speak with your local government representative to see what can be done in your area. Best of luck and well wishes

Reply:First off.Thank you for your sevice! Have you tried talking to your local veterans groups? You could also contact your Governor or Senator and maybe they can help.If I had the money I would pay it for you because none of our veterans should ever have to worry about any health care of any kind.If someone reading this is willing to help and knows how to set it up so we could donate straight to a Dentist in your area,I bet we could collect it in no time.
Reply:First off, thank you for the sacrifices you have made serving our country. I think it is horrible that you should have to pay for any kind of healthcare! But since there is no immediate fix, I do have a suggestion. I have a discount dental plan and it doesn't matter if you have a preexisting condition.

How long does it take to get used to a partial denture?

My 8 year old son suffered with rare tumours when he was a baby which were attached to his jaw. One of the tumours was high and when it was removed it took with it 3 adult teeth (these are just under the eye when you are a baby, growing and dropping down as you grow). He has finally been given a partial denture to fill the gap (it is in the front) until he gets old enough to have permanent false teeth implanted. He is finding it difficult to eat and drink, not because it hurts as the teeth are a very good fit, but because he cannot feel himself chewing, etc. Does anyone know how long it takes to get used to this and be able to eat normally again? It would be good if I could give him a rough idea of when they will start to feel like "his" teeth!

How long does it take to get used to a partial denture?
I an a dental nurse and i also had a partial denture but i was 18 yrs old so i know that that the age is different and why we got one is different, but i can fully understand what your son is going though by finding it hard. Sadly he will have his denture changed so much that he will feel it hard every time, is this as you are awear the teeth are still moving and the jaw is still growing, he can take it out to eat and put it back if after and slow leave it in when he eat small things this can help, just let him take his time with it. i know that this is very hard as he is back at school soon but let take it out for dinner at home and leave it in for lunch at school this may help. all the best i hope that his treatment goes well Billie RDN AND WHAT EVERY YOU DON'T LET HIM SLEEP WITH IT!!! LIKE SOMEONE HAS SAID AS IT CAN GO DOWN DOWN THE BACK OF HIS MONTH THEN HE IS SLEEPING ALWAYS PUT IT IN A GLASS/CUP OF WATER PLEASE
Reply:If your son is 8, he is old enough to realize what exactly is hurting him. He should try to eat slower and be more careful. And to answer your question, it will take anywhere from a couple days to a couple months, or he may never completely get used to the "fake" teeth. It varies from person to person. One of my friends has that problem and she is 20.
Reply:i have a partial denture, and your son is correct it does make it hard to feel if you are chewing, tell him it takes about a week to 10 days to begin to feel used to it. tell him from me that the best way i found to do this was to chew gum,, sugar free of course!!... tell your son good luck..
Reply:well i have one i had two of my teeth knocked out when i was eight i didnt get a partial until i was 12 and i am 21 now it takes a while to get use to it i dont know if i am totally use to it now i have had different ones some i got use to but the one i have now i have had for a year but it may be that he is not use to it because something is in his mouth i cant get use to that that may be the same case for him if it is in the top of his mouth he cant get use to eating and drinking because his tongue is touching it and food will get under it making it uncomfortable either way if it is the top or bottom i hope that helps some
Reply:Umm yea, careful with the gum chewing. Most gum will stick to dentures. I found that Orbit doesnt stick all that bad, and tastes pretty good too. I have had a full upper plate for almost 3 years now. At first, I didn't sleep with my teeth in, but would suggest it for your son. To help him get used to them. I have slept with them in for the last year or so. Now, if I sleep without them, my jaw hurts in the morning. It took me about 6 weeks to finally get over that strange feeling. I still have it sometimes, but rarely. Tell him to try and eat normally now. If he doesn't, they will never feel normal.

Good luck to him!

Dental Implants?

well ya know im 22 an bad teeth run in my family....an about all of mine are rotted...or startin to at least....i have like a 1/2 a smile...but id prob. need bottom an top....but what do prices range on that?

Dental Implants?
Implants can run up to $5000 each depended on the area you live. I have 8 implants on top and 6 on the bottom that holds a whole bridge until. Not individual implants for each missing tooth.
Reply:1/2 of you teeth problems are genetically related, the other 1/2 can be avoided with good care to your teeth. Depending on the implants, the prices range. You might also need veneers (which are costly). Your best bet would be to talk to your dentist about your options.

Tooth ache?

i have a really bad tooth ache andit is cracked and the dentist might give me a tooth implant or a root canal sometimes it hurts so bad that i want to pull it but i cant or sometime i fell like crying the dentist gave me so antimiotic but that doent stop the pain what should i do do reales the pain i take pain releaver

how can i reduce the pain?

Tooth ache?
The reason for the antibiotics is to kill the infection which is what is causing your pain - the problem is that they can take 48 - 72 hours to work!

Try swishing salt water around the infected area - nasty - but it relieved my pain from an absessed wisdom tooth. I also held an icepack against my jaw - it relieved the pain enough for me to sleep. I have also heard that clove oil works - or vodka swished around the infected area!

Good Luck!
Reply:JESS,

JUST FOR RIGHT NOW, TAKE SOME IBUPROFEN (ADVIL) AND CALL THE DENTIST FOR AN APPOINTMENT. GOOD LUCK.
Reply:This may sound crazy but it works. Take a pilled potato and bite down on it with the tooth that hurts. Hold it there for 10 minutes. When you take the potato out you will see that it has turned black from the infection inside your tooth.
Reply:Taking and finishing the antibiotic is the most important part which will start to relieve the pain after a couple of consistent doses.
Reply:take an motrin IB(ibuprofen)

if u get the 200 mg. take 2 of them

Thinking of getting dental implants. need info?

I feel as a child and broke my teeth. I need to have them recrowned and also I need to have partials put in 3 spots where I have lost other teeth on the top row. I have alot of dental problems and was thinking of having the top ones removed and getting dentures. What are the steps and cost if anyone knows. I have excellent insurance but would still like a price to get a idea before I go talk to a dentist. Thanks

Thinking of getting dental implants. need info?
Ask your Dentist for a proposed treatment plan to provide to Your Insurance company. Predeterminations help you understand your payment responsibilities

A way to minimize your out-of pocket expense for dental care is to ask your dentist for a "predetermination" from the dental carrier paying the claims before you agree to receive any prescribed, major treatment.

This can ensure you know up front what the dental plan will pay, and the difference you will be responsible for. Your dentist may be able to present alternative treatment options that will lower your share of the bill, while still meeting your basic dental care needs. Hope this is helpful. Also remember you may coverage for a free 2nd and 3rd opinon. Always best to call your insurance company directly and ask the national average of fee/costs and their share of costs and/or perecentages and so on.

Many patients are intimidated by dental implant prices and are looking for ways to save money. To learn more about average costs for dental implants and money-saving options, please click here.

According to the report, prices for dental services increased by 4.9 percent in 2004, compared with general prices that increased by only 2.7 percent. In fact, the CPI for dental services has exceeded percentage increases for the CPIs of all items in aggregate except medical care since 1995 and the one-year percentage increase in 2004 was the highest since 1993. Data on CPI figures are calculated by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Copies of the Consumer Price Index for Dental Services, 1970-2004 report are available for $15 for ADA members, $22.50 for non-member dentists and $45 for commercial firms. For more information on this report, contact the Survey Center at 1-312-440-2568 or on the Web.
Reply:I really recommend keeping the teeth you have and getting some crowns..DENTURES are not the way to go unless your teeth just cant be saved Trust me its better to get crowns instead of dentures you probably would only need a partial on top most detnures run about 850.00 depending on what you get the teeth made out of and crowns are about 650.00 also depending on the matieral used...I reccomend finding a dentist that goes by your income in your hometown that helps alot!
Reply:You are looking at quite an expense in dental work and I do not know how muh on insurance and how much rest out of pocket. If you have more than $3000 from out of pocket, consider asking Dental Care India Tour for a quote and then weigh you options.

There are a couple which cater to westerners and they are cheaper than eastern europe and way better standard of care than the UK (obviously)....plus they have someone rub your feet. They give you high quality dental treatment for a lot less as compared to US/UK/Canada and East and West European countries.Even after you've added up travel and other related costs, you end up saving 70-80% as compared to the above-mentioned countries.

It's still cheaper if you go through a medical tourism facilitator. One such provider I know of is Healthbase (http://www.healthbase.com). You can research about dental implants, communicate with the dentists overseas, compare prices, plan and book your travel all at their website.

A titanium dental implant is usually made out of an alloy of this metal along with several other metals blended together. The most common alloy used has a ratio of 90 parts titanium, 6 parts aluminum and 4 parts vanadium

titanium implants are putting metal and a high milliamperage close to the brain. i have seen a woman who measured nearly 400 milliamps positive charge, and 30 neg charge who had three in her mouth; she paid $9,000 for them. the dr said she could have ran a stereo off her teeth. we removed them. our body runs on electrical impulses, so this can disrupt them (and brain waves). also, dentists and drs will tell you that bone grows to titanium implants. well, it will grow around it. but, it is a foreign object and the body will build up antibodies to it. over time, it will pull away from the bone and can become loose. if you will notice, they say implants last about 15 years or so. they are working on an implant made of diamond, supposed to be available in 5 yrs. but, it will still be a foreign object and pull away from the bone.

Risks of Removable Appliance / Denture Bone loss Periodontal problems (irritation of gum tissue) Wear and tear on natural teeth Possible speech problems Will need adjustments regularly Comfort tends to be an issue. Block Bone Graft of my bone from Chin, Jawbone, or Hip (High Risk) Chin This procedure requires cutting through the inside of the bottom lip (he cannot cut along my gum line) and removing the bone from your chin. I do not have enough tissue in my gum area to cover the surgical site. Tissue may be used from underneath the tongue to create the flap. The surgical site needs to be covered for at least four months. There will be a scar in front of my lower teeth and this should not bother me. If you lose sensation because of nerve damage, your muscle tone you should not be affected. You will have 1-2" along the inside of my lower jaw and chin. The area may tingle and burn, but apparently You can get used to this? Also, the surgical sites may open up and need to be addressed with antibiotics, drainage, etc. This block of bone would be held in place with small titanium screws. It will take approx. 6 months to 1 year for these grafts to heal and integrate into your jawbone and the surgical sites will be kept covered with my tissue Place 2 more implants and have all 3 implants functioning separately. It will take approx. 6 months to 1 year for the implants to integrate into my jawbone. Crown all 3 implants separately. Keep yourself strong and healthy and hope that it works for a very long time. Have frequent cleanings (every 3 months). I have decided to not use bone from my face or hip. I will attempt either cadaver or artificial bone grafting.

2.7.6. Titanium

It is generally accepted that pure titanium is extremely well tolerated by local tissues and induces neither toxic nor inflammatory reactions (Branemark et al. 1969, Toth et al. 1985, Linder et al. 1988, Pfeiffer et al. 1994). The normal tissue concentration of titanium in humans is 0.2 ppm. Around the titanium implants no clinical tissue toxicity has been observed even at local concentrations higher than 2000 ppm (Hildebrand et al. 1998). In optimal situations, titanium is able to osseointegrate with bone, thus forming a direct contact with bone at the light microscopy level (Branemark et al. 1969). The good bone contact may be due to the ability of titanium to form a Ca-P rich layer on its surface (Hanawa 1991). Titanium is bacteriostatic (Elagli et al. 1992) and does not significantly activate or inhibit different enzyme systems specific to toxic reactions, e.g. β - glucuronidase, lactate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and acid phosphatase (Elagli et al. 1995). The good biocompatibility and corrosion resistance are due to the naturally forming stable titanium oxide (TiO2) film on titanium surfaces (Zitter et al. 1987, Kasemo et al. 1991).

Particles from titanium arise from the passivation layer of the implant, but they are not titanium ions, but mostly insoluble titanium oxides or suboxides, which are recognized to be biologically inert. Indeed, the passivation layer is immediately reformed after abrasion because of the high oxidizability of titanium. This behavior protects the alloy and prevents the formation of chemical compounds other than oxides (Hildebrand et al. 1998). Tissue discoloration due to titanium oxide particles is sometimes seen around pure titanium implants, but this seems to have no clinical consequences (Onodera et al. 1993, Rosenberg et al. 1993). Experiments with laboratory animals and some limited analyses of human tissues have also revealed evidence of titanium release into distant tissues (Schliephake et al. 1993, Jorgenson et al. 1997).

Wear particles produced by abrasion appear especially in the vicinity of articular prostheses and implants with certain mobility, e.g. uncemented total hip replacements. These particles may induce multiple tissue reactions, including osteolysis, degradation of normal bone structure, severe macrophagic reactions, granuloma, fibrotic capsules and chronic inflammation, which may cause destabilization and loosening of prostheses and implants (Santavirta et al. 1991, Santavirta et al. 1993, Rubash et al. 1998). Particle size and composition are of essential importance in that process. Deleterious reactions have been reported with Ti-6Al-4V based prostheses (Nasser et al. 1990, Rubash et al. 1998), but not with pure titanium implants.

In vitro, pure titanium particles have also been shown to have some effects on cells. Low concentrations may stimulate fibroblast proliferation, while high concentrations may be toxic. At high particle concentrations, titanium caused a decrease in proteolytic and collagenolytic activity in the culture medium. Titanium also elevated the lysosomal enzyme marker, hexosaminidase, except at high concentrations (Maloney et al. 1993).

Metal ion levels after metal-on-metal proximal femoral replacements: a 30-year follow-up.

[My paper] E Dunstan , A P Sanghrajka , S Tilley , P Unwin , G Blunn , S R Cannon , T W R Briggs

Metal-on-metal hip bearings are being implanted into younger patients. The consequence of elevated levels of potentially carcinogenic metal ions is therefore a cause for concern. We have determined the levels of cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), titanium (Ti) and vanadium (Va) in the urine and whole blood of patients who had had metal-on-metal and metal-on-polyethylene articulations in situ for more than 30 years. We compared these with each other and with the levels for a control group of subjects. We found significantly elevated levels of whole blood Ti, Va and urinary Cr in all arthroplasty groups. The whole blood and urine levels of Co were grossly elevated, by a factor of 50 and 300 times respectively in patients with loose metal-on-metal articulations when compared with the control group. Stable metal-on-metal articulations showed much lower levels. Elevated levels of whole blood or urinary Co may be useful in identifying metal-on-metal articulations which are loose.

Zirconium dioxide implants are supposed to be the wave of the future. They are still putting a foreign body into the jaw and the immune system will launch an immune response, so they will still loosen over time (15 to 20 years) from that. Granted, it appears to be better than titanium and they are saying it is a substitute for metal implants, but with the immune response, it isn't worth it to me.

Properties

The German chemist M. H. Klaproth discovered zirconium dioxide in 1789 although this "miracle material" with its outstanding properties has only been re-discovered in the last few decades. For instance, various types of zirconium dioxide have been introduced to dentistry as a substitute for metal. This material is attractive because of its extraordinary properties such as high flexural strength (in excess of 1,000 MPa), hardness (1,200 – 1,400 Vickers) and Weibull modulus (10-12). Yttrium partially stabilises zirconium oxide to provide these positive properties. Adding aluminium oxide boosts the flexural strength of the zirconium dioxide alloy once again. Zirconium dioxide is used for manufacturing kitchen knives, industrial cutting tools and components under great thermomechanic stress in the automobile and aircraft industry. However, it is not only very strong, it is also biocompatible so that zirconium dioxide is also used in medicine (hearing devices and artificial fingers and hips) and dentistry (pins, crowns, bridges and implants). The fact that zirconium dioxide has the same colour as teeth along with its biotechnical characteristics mean it is used for manufacturing biocompatible, high-quality and aesthetic tooth and implant reconstructions. There have only been animal experiments and laboratory examinations on applying dental zirconium oxide implants to date, meaning no long-term data exists on the clinical application of these implants.

Manufacturing Zirconium Dioxide

The mineral zirconium (ZrSiO4) is the main raw material for zirconium dioxide while melting it with coke and lime (reducing the SiO2) produces ZrO2 for industrial uses. Since extremely pure constituents have to be used for producing high-performance ceramics, special ways to synthesise it have been developed for high-purity ZrO2. This includes production with reactions in molten salts, reactions in the gaseous phase, hydrothermal powder synthesis and the sol-gel process. Gaseous phase and sol-gel process production provides powder at very small particle sizes ranging from 0.01 to 0.10 µm. This powder is then mixed with additives to create what are known as green bodies with film casting, slip casting or drying pressing. We distinguish additives such as sintering additives (that have a specific effect on the sintering behaviour and the properties of finished ceramics) and auxiliary materials that facilitate shaping. While the sintering additives stay in the ceramics, all residues of the auxiliary materials (mostly slightly volatile organic compounds along with water) are removed from the moulded component before the sintering process. The green body is passed into the raw product by sintering and ground or polished depending upon use. The sintering process can be carried out at atmospheric pressure and under high pressure and it is only with the sintering process that the moulded components receive their actual properties. The ceramic powder particles are compressed by lowering the specific surface with temperature-dependant diffusion processes with alternating components of surface, particle size grading and volume diffusion. If solid body diffusion is too slow, sintering can also be carried out with a liquid phase or under pressure, the latter being called hot pressing or hot isostatic pressing (the HIP process). The velocity of solid body diffusion can be boosted with the right selection of sintering additives. A great deal of research needs to be done here since the high sintering temperatures (in excess of 1,200° C) and manufacturing under pressure causes production costs for ceramic components to shoot up. Along with providing systematic clarification of the impact that additives have on the sintering process, there are also attempts to enhance power transmission onto ceramic components by coupling in microwaves for lowering sintering temperatures.

ZrO2 Ceramics

The properties of ZrO2 ceramics substantially pivot on the chemical composition of the material and the manufacturing process. We distinguish fully stabilised ZrO2 (FSZ „fully stabilized zirconia“) and partially stabilised ZrO2 (PSZ „partially stabilized zirconia“). It can be partially stabilised by adding 3-6% CaO, MgO or Y2O3 and depending upon the conditions of manufacturing this stabilises the cubic, tetragonal or monocline modification. Partially stabilised ZrO2 demonstrates high thermal fatigue resistance, meaning it fills the bill for use as high-temperature mechanoceramics. Adding 10-15% CaO, MgO or Y2O3 also allows cubic modification of the zirconium dioxide from absolute zero to the solidus (FSZ) and the ceramic material is thermally and mechanically stable to a temperature of 2,600°. However, its low caloric conductivity and higher thermal expansion factor as compared with partially stabilised ZrO2 mean that the thermal fatigue resistance of the fully stabilised zirconium dioxide is lower. The zirconium dioxide that is suited to use as an implant has the following composition: 95% ZrO2 + 5% Y2O3.

Dental implant?

do you have to be knocked out for a tooth implant...i just got it pulled, it's either that or bridge work

Dental implant?
No yo do not need to be "knocked out"...I work in a dental office and my dr does them all the time. Most patients say that getting the tooth out was worse then having the implant. Having an implant placed is less trauma to the bone becuase it is just a small hole put in the jaw bone. With the extraction there's pushing, pulling, and other movements that put a lot of pressure on the bone and that's why most have so much pain and swelling afer a removal. You don't have to go to a oral surgeon my dr is a general dentist who also specializes in oral surgerys. Just ask around. That's the best way to find out about dentists. Good Luck and remember it's not that bad
Reply:You should be asking the experts.

UK has banned dentists using anesthetics
Reply:No but I personally would rather be. The dentist will give you anesthetic options, you are basically getting a screw put into your skull, so perhaps being 'under' for the procedure is preferable. Some people cannot be put under for one reason or another, so they are given local anesthesia instead.
Reply:The best beat is to be knocked out unless you want to here a lot of

noises and see a lot of blood. Depending on your age (the younger, you wouldn't want bridge work. It would need to be done over in 20-40 years) you would want an implant, I plan to get one and I'm 23, Expensive Though!!!!
Reply:No, you don't have to be knocked out. I had two put in last year and they are great. Make sure that you go to a highly recommended oral surgeon for the implant part of the proceedure. One that works out of a hospital is the way to go. They have the latest techniques and specialize in these areas.

My implant was necessary because of a failed bridge. It lasted 7 years. Little did I know that a bridge can take around 40 lbs. of pressure, your real teeth can take around 80 lbs. of pressure and implants can handle around 75 lbs. of pressure. If I would have known that earlier, I would have had the implant done before that bridge.

Good Luck!
Reply:I don't think you have to be knocked out but it's optional. If you have large fillings in the teeth next to the empty space i would suggest the bridge.

good luck
Reply:When you put a dental implant, the procedure is done through local anesthetics (needle), but you stay wide awake.

The same for a bridge, which is also done through local anesthetics.
Reply:Kristylee is right. at this point, the tooth is out. that most likely was the worst part. an implant is a fairly straightforward procedure and you most likely will have little discomfort afterwards.

Good Luck

Are perfect dental implants or veneers really that attractive?

I mean obviously if your teeth are really decayed and irregular it might be an improvement, but some people get perfectly normal teeth which have 'personality' transformed into a set of piano keys which look wrong. Martine McCutcheon is a classic example. They actually can end up looking like a set of dentures. Am I the only person who thinks this?

Are perfect dental implants or veneers really that attractive?
I agree with you completely. I had braces when I was younger and specifically told my orthodontist that I didn't want my teeth to look "perfect" but just improved. I hate all the toothpaste/orthodontics commercials where everyone has perfectly white, straight, boring teeth. It just looks fake to me, basically like you said. Heh, all my friends thought I was weird when I explained that to them.

Do health insurance companies think the average person is a moron?

I am having a tooth implant. My insurance co. won't pay a nickel for it. They say it is not a necessary procedure since there are alternatives even though I had to sign a statement with my dentist that included the clause 'I understand this is a necessary procedure in my case because alternatives could jeopardize the health of my entire tooth structure.' Then I noticed my dental insurance pays for preventative oral cancer screening. I asked their rep whether that was a necessary procedure since obviously it's not, since it's preventative. The rep gave me some b.s. answer. Then I said, "why don't you just admit you won't pay for the implant because it's expensive?" The rep said, we don't pay for dental implants because they are not covered in our policy." Duh. That's Illogic 101. Do insurance companies really think we are that stupid?

Do health insurance companies think the average person is a moron?
Well it is not that people working in dental insurance

companies are any different than the people working

in health insurance or life insurance or car insurance

companies. It is just that the dental insurance per se

does not make much business sense these days, so it needs

to be augmented with exclusion clauses in the policy,

with waiting periods, and annual limits. This annoys

the dentists and the consumers as the question

illustrates. There are more sensible

alternatives to dental insurance that make more business

sense and are basically based on negotiating or

pre-negotiating lower costs for the participants.
Reply:They have us by the ba**s. Not just medical but all types. The average Joe can't fight them, they just drag it out so long it becomes more economically feesable to say screw it, eat your crap sandwich and go on . That don't make it right, that's just the way it is. Why do you think they have billions in reserve?
Reply:Pretty much. To be honest, almost no insurance companies pay for dental implants.
Reply:no they just do not care, and want to stall you for as long as possible .get a lawyer !
Reply:I think they do!!! Good luck.......I have had similar problems!! keep all correspondence and write down dates and conversations..........and................. against their desicion!!

Appeal...... appeal ..........appeal!!!
Reply:Keep in mind, your dental insurance is a contract that was negotiated with your employer! Very few employers have allowed dental implants to be a covered benefit, including Anheuser-Busch companies. For the record: Dental insurance has not increased their maximums per year for over 20 years. Most dental insurance policies have a max/year of $1000 - 1500.00 per year, which is ridiculous. A root canal and crown cost more than that.

All insurance companies are in business to make money. Dental insurance sucks. If our country would do away with insurance all together, doctors could lower their fees and the population might actually be able to afford good health care. I really don't see dental insurance as a benefit because for the most part it's expensive to have, and it doesn't cover everything.

Sadly, the people who work for the insurance company have no control over your policy. The CEO is most likely out to lunch or on vacation! Good luck. Get the implant regardless - it's a great investment.
Reply:Dental Implant and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.

They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Retainer (orthodontic device)?

I have just a quick question I have braces and I will be geting them off shorty, and will be getting a Retainer, Also I am missing one off my front teeth and will be geting an implant for it after the age of 18 ,I have to under go a bone grafting sugery and then a implant I just wanted to know if it is possible to get a retainer with prosthetic tooth in it to wear ,untill I will get my permenant tooth implanted

Retainer (orthodontic device)?
I'm young and I'm getting the exact same thing done as you are! We're actually in the exact same position as I am about to have my braces taken off as well (I've had them for over 4 years, it's about time!). Ask your orthodontist about what kind of retainers he has. They come in either wire ones with the color under the roof of your mouth or a clear retainer. The clear retainers are clear coverings that look a lot like teeth whitening trays, but they add a false tooth in them - they look completely natural! My cousin is missing two teeth in her mouth and she's also going to be getting this surgery when she's older and she has a clear retainer with two filled spots for her teeth. I used to have a teacher who is missing a tooth as well and she got the wire retainer with the false tooth in it and it looked awful - you could totally tell it was fake. The best bet would be to get the clear ones - they look completely natural! However, you must wear your retainer everyday! Your orthodontist has measured the exact space for your implant and if you don't wear your retainer it will move them out of shape and mess up the plan. Best of luck!
Reply:Talk with your orthodontist. I have heard that it can be done but have not seen it
Reply:yes it is possible and quite common. it is important though to wear it consistently to keep the right amount of space for your future implant.

Can dental implants/partials be whitened?

I have 2 artificial front teeth that I would like to whiten. Do artificial teeth whiten in the same levels normal tooth enamel does? I would guess I'd have to have the dentist do it.. but just curious if anyone else has done this.

Can dental implants/partials be whitened?
They can't. They aren't made out of enamel - most of them are porcelain, they are the color that you got. Normally, you bleach your teeth to your ideal color and then they make the implant. That way you're happy with the color. Especially if it's a front tooth. If it's composite they can add to it, but if it's an actual implant the answer is no. I'm sorry.
Reply:yes it can be done. just visit your dentist..... it will not only whiten your artificial tooth but every tooth in your mouth... I done it b4....
Reply:Whitening will only bring the implants/partials to their original color.
Reply:No they do not whiten - I have the same issue. I am having my teeth whitened by the dentist and replacing my artifical teeth to match the whitened ones. WHATEVER YOU DO - do not try self whitening kits, you will have very white teeth and seemingly discolored front ones.

My crown on implant tooth came out.?

I have expensive implants and my dentist put on crowns on it. I had one came out this week. Now I have to go back to my dentist to paste it one again. Is it common?

My crown on implant tooth came out.?
around my area- dentist do not use the strongest cement available to seat crowns on the implant abutments just in case something ever happens to the implant.

it is absolutely not a big deal at all. a minor appt and you are back together in no time!

good luck
Reply:Not common, but does happen. I know that it does not feel good.
Reply:If the work is not done properly, yes
Reply:Well, the crown is either put on an abutment that's screwed into the implant or the crown is attached by a screw.

Either ways there's a screw holding the crown, and screws do get loos sometimes (6 - 12 % of single implants experience that problem according to research).

Also rarely the crown only come out from the abutment if it is cemented on it which also happen.

It's a simple problem .. don't worry.. ok!!
Reply:You might be a night grinder. If you grind your teeth at night it can knock off your crown. Ask your dentist about a bite guard.

Dental implants cost what?

Between my junior year in high school when I got in all 4 wisdom teeth and now I am 31 I have only had dental insurance about a year now. Therefore I've had teeth problems. Anyway I can deal with back teeth problems because its not as obvious to the world but front teeth, no. I lost a top tooth that the one just beside my two front teeth. So I didn't really know what I could possibly expect to pay for an like that one tooth, not as like a denture I could take out but a more permant one.

In case any of you want to know this is not from a lack of brushing cause I brush 2x a day and now days often use Crest Mouth Wash.

I signed up with them online over 2 years ago for all my dentistry work. They have helped me save thousands of dollars from extractions, root canals, cleanings. I know for a fact that all services are included especially orthodontics and dentures in the benefits. They had my membership active in 2 hours and was able to use the same day. I am very thankful.

Good Luck. Hope this helps
Reply:My daughter has to have dental implants (2) and I'm told they cost $10,000!
Reply:HI, I'm a dentist.

Implants can cost around 5 thousand dollars per tooth, including the fake tooth that is placed on the implant.

A three unit bridge may be another option for you, and that would probably cost around 2500 dollars.

Dental insurance usually will not cover implants, so check before you decide.

Good luck.

P.S. - you can brush twice daily and use mouthwash every day, but if you are not brushing properly AND flossing daily, you will have dental problems. It's not the amount of time you put into oral hygiene, it's the technique that matters most.

How long will it take the swelling to go down after a sinus lift and tooth implant?

Swelling , bruises, bleeding from the surgical site or nose are common post operative signs , and usually may take a week or more to subsides but by following your doctor's instructions you can minimize the course. Anyhow if you noticed no changes in swelling size plus persistant pain within 4-5 days post op. It is advised to immediately contact your doctor.

How much does it cost per tooth for an implant ?

My family is sponsoring a studen from Africa...she lost 3 teeth 10 years ago...is it possible to give her implants event though its been 8 years since she lost them...(implants not dentures)?

How much does it cost per tooth for an implant ?
Yes, it is possible-if the teeth that are beside the teeth to be replaced haven't shifted into the empty space. It would also depend on the condition of the bone--there are alot of things involved in getting an implant--go talk to an oral surgeon and get their opinion.

I worked for an oral surgeon who did implants and they were around $1500.00 just for the implant--that does not include general anesthesia (if the patient would like to go to sleep to have the work done) or the permanent crown. You would have to go back to your regular dentist for the crown, and they are around $700-1000 each ( depends on your location). Most of the time implants are not covered under your dental insurance, as they are not the only option, more of a cosmetic choice. I hope this helps.

Front tooth Dental Implant?

Hello. I had an apiectomy performed on a large fron tooth last December. To make a long story short, the specialist declared the procedure a failure. The tooth is mobile and has pain from time to time.

He says I am a candidate for an implant. Cost $2400!

If I have this done, will the implant work? At the time of extraction, will I leave the office with some type of temporary tooth? Please help. Thanks. I have asked the dentist for a discount in light of the failed apio. I am waiting for his response. Thanks.

Front tooth Dental Implant?
Hopefully the fee for the failed apico will be deducted from the implant fee.

Keep in mind that an implant procedure can take 6 months to complete. You'll have a healing cap placed over the implant and it will be sticking out of your gums. A temporary crown cannot be placed on this... this is to make sure your body doens't reject the implant. You'll probably have something called a Flipper made by your general dentist prior to your implant visit to fill the gap until the implant 'takes'.

Then it's back to the general dentist for an impression for the crown that will replace the healing cap. You'll have additonal charges for the 'screw' that goes into the implant, as well as the crown fee...probably another $1000 or so.

Best of Luck~
Reply:2400 $ cost? That is a LOT cheaper then it could be... The implant is for sure to work, it pretty much just snaps in, the implant part itself, is put into your bone, so that will stay for sure. Yes you will leave with a temporary tooth for four months, to let it heal and settle...
Reply:O the specialist gave you a good option cus implants are long lasting treatment and of course it would look very good too cosmetic wise. As far as what you'll have when you leave the office that day is probably a temporarily retainer with fake tooth attached to the retainer where the missing spot is until the tissue heal and then in about 4 or 6 weeks latter they'll ask you to return and they could possibly make you a temp crown using the implant they placed on your first visit. If am not mistaking they'll have you wait for about 6 month for the tissue and bone to completely heel before they start working on your final crown. Hay its gonna be lots waiting time before you actually get ur permanent work but its completely worth of waiting. As far as the price i'm not exactly sure how much other office charge but i heard its fairly expensive but again its not gonna be any kind of investment that you'll regret letter. Its a wonderful long lasting treatment ever these days. Hay hope everything goes well and i would say get it over with as fast as you can and enjoy ur smile. Hope this helps

Dental implants are incredibly expensive.. but if you're willing to travel, you can probably get it much cheaper elsewhere in Europe. The site compares prices for the UK, but it has a phone number for Ireland. :-)

That's a question for your oral surgeon. Depends on how he wants to be paid.
Reply:Depends on the DR.
Reply:Don't think of it as extremely expensive. It will improve your quality of life significantly and you will be amazed as how cheap it is compared to the final results.

How much will it cost to get a good tooth implant?

I normally charge $2000 per implant tooth (that covers surgery, implant and crown) for qualified patients. However, in New York Dental school, I heard they only charge $500 per tooth and they do great jobs. So check out the dental school in the area and normally they charge alot less for any dental procedures.

lots money
Reply:that qualifies as cosmetic surgery, so its probably pretty expensive.

not to mention that most insurance dental plans dont cover cosmetic surgeries.
Reply:About as much as a new used car. Where do they get off charging that kinda money, I will never know.
Reply:I work in a dental off. and we charge $1675 and up. First you need to have an implant consultation and make sure that you are a good candidate for the procedure. Sometimes an implant can fail if your bone doesn't hold it in.

How much does it cost to get a tooth implant? in UK?

Gee, I think you should probably get a few estimates by going in person.

Here in the States an implant (state of the art) will run at least $3,000.00 if you include the surgery, any additional grafts or pins from a second procedure (sometimes necessary due to rejections) and the final crown.

You really do not want to have this procedure done on the cheap, seek the advice of a well referred cosmetic dentist and then pay the price, you will be glad you did.

i dont know about implants but my dentist quoted me £200 per tooth to be crowned. im saving now as i need 6 done :(
Reply:400 pounds
Reply:A tooth implant is where your gum is cut slightly and a metal screw is fixed (implanted) into your jaw bone. The gum is then flapped back over the screw thread and left to heal for a few weeks. You then go back to the dentist to have the fake tooth fixed onto the screw.

It's quite a technical procedure and it requires a qualified dentist with this specific speciality. I'm sure the price varies a little between dentists, but my dentist charges approximately £2000. I know! It's alot of money - that's a nice holiday in the Caribbean!
Reply:This is not something that a regular dentist does. I don't know how much that it costs, however I guess that it would be very expensive. You could get a bridge instead, its not cheap, however your regular dentist could do this. It involves capping the teeth at either side of the gap and having a false tooth in between. It is still expensive but its cheaper that an implant I think. I had one done about twenty years ago.
Reply:A bridge is cheaper and can be done by any general dentist. It looks as good too and you don't need surgery and done grafting.
Reply:I've had 2 implants a couple of years ago £4 grand the pair.

That includes casts and setting up jigs.

No problems at all with the work.

What is the best price to get a tooth implant?

I have no idea on pricing for your area on this procedure.

I can give you a list of dentists in your area that you can call and ask. If you need coverage to help reduce the out of pocket costs then I can help there too.

Go to: http://www.qualitymedicalcare.org

Click on Locate a Provider and then Dentists and enter your zip code. It will bring up a list in your area and their numbers. You can call them and ask them how much a tooth implant would cost and then ask them what it would cost if you used the AmeriPlan benefits.

You would only be paying $11.95 a month for the coverage itself so it is a life saver!!

Good luck!

How long is the total process of tooth implant (titanium screw based one)?

It is a two stage process. Implant surgery and abutment in the first stage. After healing (osseointegration) is complete in 3-6 months that the permanent crown is placed (cemented) in the second stage. Also there is one hour or one day implant, but every body is not a candidate for same.

How long is the total process of tooth implant (titanium screw based one)?
several months
Reply:This depends on many factors such as the type of the implant, the condition of the patient, the location where implants are being placed and many other factors.

It varies from a single visit to several months.

How much will it cost for tooth implant in singapore for single or multiple (about 4)?

It depends on which dentist you go to.

My mum went to a neighborhood dentist, cost her about $400 for one implant.

My friend went to an Orchard Road dentist, cost him $1000/tooth. He lost 4 while playing rugby.

It was about 3 or 4 years ago that they did the implants. The price might have gone up. Maybe you should call the dental clinics up for a quote.

How long after a molar extraction can one wait before the other teeth start to go all crookedy from the gap?

This would be a big old upper molar or something, second from the last tooth (absent any wisdom tooth). It had to be yanked out in an emergency best left undescribed, and there was no opportunity to place a bone graft for a future implant. How important is it to rush to have a bone graft placed in preparation for an implant? This is for a 42-year-old guy.

How long after a molar extraction can one wait before the other teeth start to go all crookedy from the gap?
The above is right it may or maynot move. But you can have a 40 dollar metal spacer put in until the graft an be done.
Reply:There is no answer to this. It might never move or it might start to move by next week. Or some time in between those two. Seriously.

Which is better to replace a broken tooth, a root canal or an tooth implant?

My 4th facial molar broke in half today because of tooth decay, so I need to know this asap!

Which is better to replace a broken tooth, a root canal or an tooth implant?
First, place the broken tooth in a sterile, wet cloth (gauze) and rush to your dentist. He might be able to put it back together

If the root is salvageable, it's better to keep it. If the root has to go, then implants are best.
Reply:Ignore your pain. Be a man. It'll make you more strong. Dentists work only to get your money. Show them who's in charge.
Reply:Neither, leave it like it is because it matches the rest of your snags.
Reply:are you a Nascar fan by any chance?
Reply:I would get the root canal and the crown versus the implant because of the cost and because the tooth is so far back in the mouth.

Good Luck.
Reply:a root canal is the procedure the dentist performs to clean out the decay out of the root canal...you'll have to have it done most likely. then a crown will be used to replace the tooth. implants are extremely expensive and are rarely used to replace just one tooth. i've had many root canal procedures...they are not as painful as a lot of people make them out to be. but get to the dentist soon, as the decay is an infection that will abcess if you let it go too long...good luck with this.
Reply:If your tooth is way too far decayed they'll have to pull it, if not then they'll do a root canal and fill in the rest with a cap. Either one isn't that bad, just don't sit there waiting.
Reply:first of all forget the implant thing. Of the people that I know that had them they absolutely hate them. They even look nasty after time. My friends mom had to have all the implants taken out cause they too got bad. Either have the tooth pulled and just deal with the space or have a root canal. I had a root canal and it wasn't that bad. Make sure they give you novacaine (sp?) and gas. Also make sure they give you penicillin or something like that. They were supposed to give it to my son and didn't and he ended up with a wopping infection. But for the most part the root canal would be the best if you didn't wanna have it pulled. Hope you feel better.
Reply:if the broken is in horizontal direction so its better to do root canal filling with compound filling type specially if root is intact ,but in case of vertical # which seperated tooth %26amp;part of root its better to extraction the tooth %26amp;do either bridge or tooth implant.
Reply:If you actually have both alternatives... you should take the root canal treatment... because, still your own tooth and also it´s not as expensive as a dental implant..

Good luck!
Reply:buddy, lemme clear one doubt first before i try to answer.... which tooth is it??? bcoz u said it's 4th facial molar, and a typical human being has got only 3 molars. so i think u got the tooth number wrong, anyways, if it's 3rd molar, the better option is to get it extracted as the roots of 3rd molar are curved and in most of the cases, the rct is not succesful, as far as replacement of the tooth is concerned, wisdom teeth can be done without replacement bcoz it doesn't occlude. i.e it doesn't come in contact with the opposing teeth when u close ur mouth so it serve no useful purpose unless the first and second molar are missing and u need the bridge in that case, third molar can be used for replacement....so, the better judge will be a professionally trained dentist as he will look into the general aspect and if he finds that, the roots are straight and rct can be successful plus the future need of the tooth, like weakened 1st and 2nd molar which may necessitates there replacement at a later date.... then he will try to save the tooth. otherwise, he can safely remove it without any cause of trouble to u.

if it is not wisdom tooth i.e 3rd molar, then it's always better to save the tooth. any prosthesis whatsoever well made can't replace the original thing. the implants are still in trial stages and success rates are very meagre even in hands of trained dentists. while u get gud results of RCT even in the hands of not so gud dentists. so, it's better that u consult a gud endodontist and he will guide u, what way to go.....and make it soon, bcoz the more u delay it, more will be the chances of it getting infected... wishing ur sooner recovery

If you've had a tooth implant, how many doctors + dental visits did this total2b4 completion?
If the implant is already in place and if it has been exposed (or was left exposed) and all the healing from any needed surgery is done, you are ready to start the restorative phase.

This can be done a couple of different ways, but it is generally done with only one or two more visits, spaced about a month apart or less.

Reply:1 dentist did the whole thing himself in 1 visit. I did have to go back for an X-ray, and to put in another temporary crown.
