I just got a tooth implant yesterday...?

Now i have to wait 6 months for it to heal. And then i will visit my regular dentist who will put an extension on the post, and then wait for the gum to surround the extension. I was wondering if I would still be able to wear my flipper (retainer thing with fake tooth) after she puts in the extension... or will she put a temporary crown? It's a front tooth and I don't want to be walking around with a metal thing hanging from my gum! %26gt;.%26lt;

Yes you'll still be able to wear it..she can trim the partial denture around the abutment or she can create a temporary crown. Most people we treat keep the denture because they have just got used to wearing it.

Don't worry, they won't leave the abutment exposed!

Dental Implants are such a great thing right now..you have definitely made a good choice and it ought to last you your whole life

I'm very pleased to see that you understand how your treatment works. Keep it up!

By the time the "extension on the post" to heal the gum is placed (properly known as a "healing abutment"), osseointegration should have taken place and the implant should be ready to support loads. The problem is that the healing abutment isn't, as far as I know, a suitable platform for a temporary tooth.

There is no problem, however, with the doctor modifying your flipper so that it can fit in your mouth while you have the healing abutment in place....if it's possible for him/her to do so.
