Dental implant question (concern)?

i had a dental implant done when i was 13...i'm 23 now and the tiniest bit of the screw is coming through my gum right above the tooth. is it the implant or my gums that should be my concern? the grayness of the screw was always visible through my gum but now i can actually see a piece of it and i'm flipping out. have you ever heard of this?? i'm going to visit a dentist soon, but should i be so concerned.

Dental implant question (concern)?
Are you sure this is not a post in an existing tooth. An implant is a screw into the bone and would not be visible at the gum, it is encased in bone. If you are seeing metal there is cause for some concern, it could be you are starting with bone loss around the implant which could eventually cause the implant to become loose. If it is a post in an existing tooth the tooth could be fractured. or it could have been placed poorly in the tooth, or it could be just the color of the build-up used around the post. Your best bet is to get into a dentist and have him check it out. SOON
Reply:your body could be rejecting the implant, although this is unlikely after this amount of time, unless there is infection. you didn't mention any pain though, but it still doesn't rule it out. receding gums could also be a problem, although your dentist is obviously the only person who can say whats going on in your mouth. i wouldn't say its an emergency but get yourself checked out when you can, can't see it falling out or causing unfixable problems but its always nice to know whats going on. good luck!!
