Hi, do you think my dentist is taking me for a financial ride? I'm scheduled to have the following:?

bone graft for one tooth (molar), tooth extraction, dental implant and finally crown. He is charging me in total, $3950.00

I feel that's a bit steep, and plus, his payment plan will really hurt my wallet. Do you know of other dentists, particularly in the Westchester County, NY area who would charge less for the above procedures? I would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

All this for one molar...

Hi, do you think my dentist is taking me for a financial ride? I'm scheduled to have the following:?
For one molar?? I would just have him extract it, and then get on with my life, one tooth less.
Reply:That sounds about right to me. So they want to do a bone graft first, then extract the tooth they did a bone graft around, then put in a implant, and then a few months later load it with the crown?

Under 4K sounds about right. It is a lot of money to pay for just one tooth, but it's worth it if it's the only tooth you have left to chew on. Food is one of the best things in life that we enjoy. It's a lot to go through for one molar, but it's worth it if it's your last chewing molar.

I can't give you alternative treatment options without seeing your x-rays and treatment notes. You could always get a second opinion.

Good luck.

Correction: Yes, the bone graft would be done after or during the extraction.
Reply:yeah its called an insurance company with a dental plan....... and yes if its a molar why not just have it pulled out? no one is going to see it.....or go to another state...like Nebraska or IOWA its ony a 200 bucks in gas and they only charge about 800 bucks
Reply:For your area of the country, those fees sound reasonable. In the midwest, it would be a little less and in Florida or California,maybe a little more. {By the way--I think he'll do the bone grafting after the tooth is extracted though at the same appointment.}
Reply:Unless you need it I'd have it pulled. If dentists really care about people having healthy teeth %26amp; gums more than they do getting rich, they wouldn't charge more than the average family can afford. From what I've heard, if you have to pay for dental insurance it isn't worth the money either as it doesn't cover enough %26amp; the co-payments are too high. Just like Drs., most dentists just "ain't what they used to be!".
Reply:In my area of Ontario,Canada $3950 for the stated procedures would be about right. As far as whether it is worth it, that is a personal decision based on affordability, whether it would be the only missing tooth in your mouth, your age, your tolerance for dental work, etc. Many people drive around in very nice cars with small dents, or scratches here and there, others race out to fix every little flaw because it bothers them. Do what your heart tells you.

p.s you could have the tooth removed with or without bone grafting, and see how you manage for a few months. The grafting and implant can be done later if you wish. Hope this helps.
