Ok, a definitely nightmare scenario has played out for my mom last week. She was out walking and she slipped on some ice and fell, knocking out one of her front teeth and damaging at least the other. She is 50 years old, has no dental insurance, and is naturally an extremely self-conscious person. However, due to this lack of insurance, she hasn't had a dental visit in years, so her overall dental health is probably questionable as it is. This whole thing has completely devastated her, and she refuses to leave her house or even agree to see me yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for cost-effective solutions here? Whether it be dentures (expensive if several teeth need to be removed) implants (also very expensive) or whatever. I'm hoping there's something I don't know about. Any ideas, dental pros?

I think the best interim solution is a "flipper". Our office charges $200 for these -- basically a retainer with some teeth attached. Esthetically they look very good (sometimes even I have to take a really close look to figure out which teeth have been replaced). She could wear this until she saved enough for other options. If the cost is too high at your dentist, ask them if they can use cheaper plastic teeth. Best wishes.
