depends what they are made from really. if its porcelain then no, but any implant can go wrong, its just luck

Reply:No side effects that I know of. The part that is inserted in your bone is titanium, which is also used in other surgeries. It takes about a year before it feels completely natural, but it's only actively uncomfortable for a week or so.

I'm in the process of getting one. The screw has been placed into my gums already (didn't hurt a bit! ... but I was drugged) and I'm getting the crown in November.
The assistant at my dentist's, who also got some implants, said that it may take some getting used to but they do feel like regular teeth (He said) and best part, they'll never go bad!
But do make sure you got to an experienced prothodontist.

Dental Implant?
hi, i had a dental implant fitted on my front tooth in december and had my crown put on the other day.
i also damaged my other front tooth so had a veener put on that.
question though, my veener is pefect (i recommend them to anyone) but my implant at the moment seems a little smaller than my other front tooth.
my gum is swelled though and my dentist says it usually takes a few months for the swelling to go down and for people to see the full benefits of an implant, but i can't see if my crown on the implant goes up into my gum and i can't see if it will appear normal once the swelling goes down.
i can't imgen they would give me 1 front tooth bigger than the other would they? :/
would love to hear from people whos had implants or people who as expertise in this area, thanks.

I havnt had the procedure finsihed yet, atm have 2 metal pegs sticking out my gum (attractive!!) but in next couple of weeks they are going to be taken out and replaced my the tooth. My gum was swollen alot more than i realized wheni had the pegs put in, it hought they were hardly noticable but a month later, they looked as if they were MASSIVE altho obv they wernt lol! nounce your gum has de-swelled your teath will look more even sized dont worry! They def wouldnt have made your teath diffferent lenght, so try not to worry and remember, once everything in your mouth has settled down you will have a stunning smile :) x

Whitening a bridged tooth?
i just got a bridge done for my tooth.
it's a temporary one until i align my teeth with retainers and then i am going to put in an implant. however, the color is very .... unnatural? so in order for them to look uniform, i was thinking of whitening my teeth with colgate brushons or the white strips from crest.
can bridged tooth be whitened at home? how about implants?/

i have been in the dental field for about 20 years. No unnatural teeth will lighten with any bleaching material. sometimes it changes the shade a LITTLE bit because it removes stain. Hopefully this doc has enough experience in implants to complete this procedure with the utmost natural look for you. Most of the time the dentist will make a semi custom temp that closely matches the natural teeth nearby. Best thing to do is make SURE the dentist takes a close match shade check on the adjoining teeth before this final impression is completed. My feeling about this is just that the doc made a crappy temp. It doesnt have to be this way.....and make sure you ask LOTS of questions about the implant....long and expensive procedure....BUT if you have healthy gums and bone, its the very best way to restore a lost tooth. I need to have a lot of dental work done, and I don't have insurance. It will take about $3000 for xrays, exams, fillings, and wisdom teeth pulling just to get me to the point where I can pay at least $4000 for braces..... I have poor enamel on my teeth, and have always had major problems, in my mind it would make more sense to just pay $3000-$4000 for the wisdom teeth, and fillings, and get implants or a partial included in that cost, and then not have to shell out so much money. I am only 26, but have always had major problems with my teeth (it runs in my family-my mother has a partial). Just curious what anyone else would do, any suggestions?

Which orthodontic procedure would be best for 3mm open bite?
my daughter is 15 years old, and has a 3 mm open bite in her front teeth. before getting braces, i went to see two different orthodontists, to compare, and i got 2 completly different procedures. the first oprthodontist wanted to put on braces for 2 years, as well as pull out two of the back teeth. the second orthodontist wanted to pull no teeth, but to put in implants (metal screws) as well as braces to pull back the upper teeth. i have no idea which is better, although the second orthodontist gave an estimated time of 6 months less than the first. if anyone could give me any imput or background inforamtion that would be great.

you have the tooth pulled, a titanium screw is placed, you are allowed to heal for 6-8wks. after that you will go in to your normal dentist or a prostodontist to have the implant area fitted with an implant supported crown. this involves impressions and then going back two- three weeks later to have the crown cemented on. it shouldn't take 18 months unless you are needing to have a couple bone grafts.
in the mean time, you can have a flipper made to replace the missing teeth (like if it's a front tooth) or just go w/out a tooth in the back.
and by the way, an implant is WAY more predictable than a bridge. if the bridge fails you have to have 2 more teeth pulled or totally lose the bridge. implants never get decay around the edges like a bridge could. implants are forever, bridges are made to last like 15 yrs or a little more, only if you take care of it.

When an implant is placed, a process called "osseointegration" must occur, which is the growth of bone up to the microscopic surface structure of the implant. This process typically takes 3 to 6 months.
As for teeth being removed for the implant, the teeth were likely hopeless to begin with. Nobody removes healthy natural teeth to replace with implants. As far as your appearance, ask for a "flipper".
